Our Patented Engineered Timber Flooring Technology
THE ESSENCE AND BEAUTY OF LIFEWOOD ENGINEERED HARDWOOD FLOORING IS GUARANTEED BY OUR PATENTED STABILISED SOLID ENGINEERED TIMBER FLOORING TECHNOLOGY
So Lifewood came up with a world-first solution. In the current market, we had engineered timber flooring, usually a more affordable product, which aims to stop the natural warp and cup of the timber using simple engineering techniques. Then, often top of the range, we had solid engineered hardwood floorboards, which takes the best quality, best-looking part of the tree and make it a engineered timber floorboard, the remainder of the trunk being discarded.
And now, we have a third category: The world’s most reliable and premium quality floorboard made using Stabilised Solid technology.
Our Stabilised Solid® Engineered Timber Flooring Technology
We take one beautiful timber log …… and we make beautiful hardwood timber flooring.
We select the best quality, most striking-looking 30 per cent of the wood for the top plank of the floorboard. It is also a thicker plank than most hardwood timber flooring on the market, so can be re-sanded many times if so desired.
We engineer the essential core layer of the board. Using another 40 per cent of same timber type, timber sections are laid and glued at right angles. This cross-layering gives the core the ability to yield to the natural movement of its environment, and yet hold this movement entirely within its core, so it does not affect the top and bottom layers of the floorboard. This detailed, extensive part of the process is precise and quality controlled with great attention.
Finally, the bottom layer of the floorboard uses the remaining 30 per cent of the timber resource. Using the same timber throughout the whole floorboard means we are locking in the inherent fibre strength the tree itself uses to remain straight and upright. As a result, there is balance and harmony all within the one board, by using the one timber.
Know your hardwood flooring …
Engineered Timber Flooring
Timber which has more than one layer, up to three. It can be anything from a thin veneer on ply wood, to a variety of different timber’s layered together in one plank. Often not suitable to glue down onto concrete.
Lifewood’s Stabilised Solid Timber Flooring
Uses the engineered timber flooring method, but the core is cross-layered in the same timber type to maximise floorboard stability. This patented Stabilised Solid technology is only available through Lifewood.
Solid Timber Flooring
Timber flooring which is made from a single solid board. Not multiple layers, just a tongue and groove edge. Usually random lengths and narrow widths. Not sealed on the side or bottom of the board.
Features & Benefits of Hardwood Flooring
Solid multi-layered flooring
We use only premium grade hardwood across all three layers. This design allows us to always select the most attractive looking wood for the top layer.
Our patented cross-layered technology guarantees your floorboards will have maximum stability against cupping or warping
Ten layers of non-yellowing, durable coating
By applying multiple layers of polish, your floors will have the maximum resistance to scratches.
Responsible and sustainable
Our unique design means no part of the tree’s timber is wasted during the manufacturing process. We are able to operate in a sustainable way without compromising on quality.
Floorboards with a choice of widths to suit you
Our cross-layered technology has allowed us to create wider, longer floorboards, which can help to create a feeling of more space.
Tongue and grooved
This helps to provide a more stable floor and improve moisture resistance. Can create a better finish and allow more intricate work than click-lock systems.
Your floor is ready to walk on within hours of being installed. No need to move out or find short-term accommodation as is the case with the sand and polish method.
Designed for the Australian climate
We take great care to acclimatise your flooring before we install it. This means you can floor is ready to walk on and furniture moved back in almost instantly.
Coating applied to all surfaces
By coating all six sides of the floorboard, your floor has maximum moisture resistance.
Floorboards are glued directly to the floor
This helps to create a quieter floor to walk on and there are no unsightly nail holes.
“From the beginning, we made a commitment to create the world’s most stable, durable and beautiful looking hardwood flooring. Working with a product that naturally contracts and expands presented us with plenty of challenges, but after many years of research and development, we fulfilled our commitment and in the process created our patented technology.” Mark Hutchison – Founder and Managing Director
