In the heart of Western Australia, Jarrah and Marri have long been revered as heritage timbers, deeply entwined with the region’s rich history. The timber industry, once thriving on the readily available resources, face a significant shift with the state governments recent decision to impose a logging ban in public or native forests.

However, it’s crucial to understand that this ban isn’t a blanket prohibition on cutting down Jarrah and Marri trees. Private lands, estates and forests remain potential sources. The recent political decision has sparked a need for innovative solutions to ensure the continued utilisation of these valuable resources.

Our committment to sustainability goes beyond the ban, recognising the ongoing clearing of land for various purposes like roads, farming and mining activities in Western Australia means there are trees that can be saved and, using our flooring technology, turned into beautiful timber floors.

Our extensive network with farmers and a history in timber milling in Donnybrook, positions us as a key player in rescuing timber that would otherwise be burnt and lost forever.

While the availability of Jarrah and Marri is not consistent, Lifewood ensures that whenever these timbers are accessable, they are utilised to create stunning, long-lasting floorboards. The company operates on a dynamic model, responding to the ebb and flow of timber availability.

There are some great alternatives in the event we cannot source Jarrah or Marri for your home, such as our Rustic Blackbutt in place of Marri, and Grey or Red Ironbark in place of Jarrah.

If you are interested in these heritage timbers we urge you to engage us early in your project. Jarrah and Marri will always be available, it’s just a question of whether it will work with the timeline of your project.
